Books, Babies and Birthdays (oh my!)

It’s another drizzly Saturday here in KC, but I am buzzing with excitement! NightWind is officially available for pre-order on Amazon! Well, the Kindle edition is. I’m waiting on the final cover wrap file from the designer and then I can order a preview copy of the softcover version for approval. So, it’ll be another couple of weeks still until the print version is available. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to launch the print version around my publication date. But, we’ll see what happens!

With my book birthday looming, a lot of baby metaphors have come to the forefront. Do other people get those thoughts or comments from others? At work, there are several women who have given birth over the past few months and we are still expecting more babies by the end of the year (and no I’m not one of them!)! So, I expect babies are on the minds of most people I spend my time with right now. With the more recent trend of authors calling a publication day a “book birthday,” the metaphor is just even more obvious.

I suppose writing and publishing a book is a little like having a baby. I mean, I’ve never had a baby, so I can’t really say… But, you work for months or years on a project and then, one day, you release this precious thing into the world. (I guess on the baby front, you don’t really get to choose when the precious he or she comes into the world – at least not usually.)

Unlike babies though, with books, you automatically start thinking about the next one. You might have even started thinking about your next project while you were in the middle of grinding out the current one.  That’s where I am now! I can’t wait to start working on my next project.

But, we’re not out of the woods yet. I’m focusing on NightWind until the end of June and then I’m allowing myself to turn to my next story.

Speaking of birthdays…well, birthdays are worth celebrating, right? I’ve decided to have another book publishing party to celebrate the publication of NightWind! The party will be on June 22 down at Noir Arts and Oddities (special thank you to my friend Pam for letting me host the party in her space and for always supporting local writers and artists!). I’ll share more details with you as soon as we have a time frame squared away. But, if you’re in the area, I’d love to see you down at Noir!

Thank you so much for reading and your support. I hope you’ll check out NightWind either during the pre-order period or on May 24. It’ll make a great Memorial Weekend lakeside (or beachside if you’re so lucky) read!
