It’s almost time for Christmas and that means multiple days in a row with nothing to do but read (and eat chocolate)!
As a writer, I feel very lucky that one of the best things I can possibly do for myself and my craft is read! Therefore, I read anything and everything! As fellow writers, I’m sure you do the same.
So, what’s on my list this holiday season?
Labyrinth of Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafon – Anytime Zafon writes in the amazing universe he created in Barcelona with the Cemetary of Forgotten books, I have to drop whatever it is I am doing and buy it. I adore the characters in this world and I am absolutely in love with the way Zafon writes.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris – This book has been on my radar and my Kindle shelf for quite some time. I know it’s going to be a tear-jerker, but I’m really intrigued by the story and am looking forward to this read.
The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker – This book intrigues me for two reasons. One, it’s the story of the Iliad told from the perspective of women. Two, I’m getting ready to dive into my own Greek novel-writing project and am reading every piece of fiction that comes out about Greek mythology and Ancient Greece. If you have recommendations, please let me know!
Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff – I just love Jay Kristoff’s work and now that I’ve discovered him, I want to devour every book he’s written. I’m well on my way, too, as I await the follow-ups to Nevernight/Godsgrave and Lifelik3. I’m really excited to check out some of his other storylines in with this series!
The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White – Okay, you all know about my Gothic literature roots. This is a must-read simply because of that. It’s described as “a dark, lovely midnight read.” Though, because it’s horror, I doubt I’ll be able to read it in the dark!
Clearly I’m a boundary-ignoring, genre-hopping book nerd and I’m proud of it. What’s on your reading list this winter? Please share in the comments!
Whatever your holiday of choice, please know that I wish you all the best this season! Happy Holidays to all my fellow writers and readers!
